Friday 25 May 2007 - Carving Up The Town
Hi gang,

At our meeting on Tuesday we decided that we would carve up the town between us to make sure that no bloom in Sherborne goes unsnapped!

We made some decisions about who would do what, but there are some gaps to be filled.

Could you please study the map and table below and let me know what (more) areas you could undertake to cover. The grid references are taken from the map that Alec distributed. The squares indicate only some of the major landmarks and are not a definitive taxonomy.

A1 B1 C1
Quarr Lane Caravan Park
Gryphon School
Bristol Road
D1
A2 B2
Sheeplands Lane
Barton Gardens
Girl's School
C2
Cheap Street
Methodist Church garden
Newland
Paddock Garden
Manor House
Yeatman Hospital
D2
Tinneys Lane
Fosters Field
Castleton Road
East Mill Lane
A3
Bradford Road
B3
Horsecastles Lane
Wingfield Road
Ridgeway
C3
Abbey Close
Pageant Gardens
Boy's School
Station
Almshouses
D3
Sherborne Castle
A4 B4
Lenthay Road
C4 D4

Here are the task allocations so far:
Alec, Ray & Nora  Cheap Street shops. Pubs, hotels, restaurants, cafes.
Ted  Quarr Lane Caravan Park
Linda  Abbey Close and streets to the west
Betty  Ridgeway estate, Lenthay Road
Keith & Gillian  Newland, Newland Garden, Paddock Garden, Manor House , Flats
Norman
Brian H  Allotments
Brian C
 Linda, Betty & Gillian
Girl's School

What we want to do is to make sure that every square of the map is covered. This will involve undertaking to walk all the streets in a square, noting what there is (or isn't) and taking pictures when the blooms are at their best. Some squares can be walked by one person: others are denser and will need two or more.

So, in the first instance could you please let me know which streets you are prepared to walk and snap. If you could give me a list of the streets I will mark up a master (paper) map and we will distribute these to let everyone know who is doing what. And when I've heard from you I'll be able to isolate any areas where we don't have coverage so that gaps can be plugged.

Please email me with your offers and please let me know if you have already done any photography.

I'll then get a detailed schedule going and post it up here so that everyone can see how we're doing.

Look forward to hearing from you.

g.

Sherborne In Bloom Growing For Gold Competition

About This Blog
Sherborne Bradford Abbas Camera Club are supporting 'Sherborne In Bloom 2007', our town's entry in this year's prestigous Britain In Bloom competition.

Members of the club will be roaming the town taking photographs of the gardens, containers, shops, pubs, restaurants, allotments, open spaces, private spaces - in fact, anywhere where they can find spectacular blooms!

The photographic entries will be displayed in the town in judging week (mid July).

This blog is primarily for the photographers to keep in touch with one another and to monitor progress as we shoot the town's flowers!
